Different Procedures of Facelift Surgery
Facelift is day care procedure performed under general anaesthesia. Facial implants or fat transfer techniques are used for facelift. Facial implants are used to enhance or augment facial features including cheeks, chin and jaw. The type and size of the implants depends on your aesthetic goals and as recommended by the surgeon after your initial consultation. For facial fat grafting, excess fat is taken out from another part of the body, treated and grafted on the face to enhance the facial features.
Facelift can be performed surgically and non-surgically. Non-surgical facelift procedures include Dermal fillers, Botox and Threads. . However non-surgical methods cannot achieve the same results and are only temporary.
There are typically three types of Facelift, including:
- A traditional facelift is performed with an incision beginning at the hairline of the temples, going around the ear and ending in the lower scalp. Fat & underlying tissues are repositioned and deeper muscles are lifted. Excess skin is draped over the lifted contours and trimmed away. Traditional facelift may also include another incision under the chin to improve the neck contours. The incision are closed using the sutures or surgical tape or skin glue.
- A mini facelift is performed with minimal incisions at the temple and around the ear. This however is less rejuvenation than a full traditional facelift.
- A neck lift procedure is performed to lift the sagging jowls, chin and the neck. An incision is made in front of the ear lobe that goes till posterior hair behind the ear. The incision are closed using the sutures or surgical tape or skin glue.
Neck lift is a Day- case procedure, done under local or general anaesthesia. An incision is made in the hairline along the sideburn toward the end of posterior hair at the back of the ear. Through the incision, excess fat and tissues are removed or repositioned in the jowls and neck. Platysma muscle is tightened and the extra skin is lifted and draped over the uplifted contours. Extra skin is removed and the incision is closed using sutures or surgical tape. In some cases, another incision under the chin might be done by the surgeon to perform liposuction in the area and for muscle repair. This procedure is known as traditional neck lift.
How Is Recovery After Facelift Surgery?
Mild swelling and bruising may be experienced. It will subside in 10-14 days and the final results of neck lift start to appear. The surgeon might place a bandage around the face and neck to help minimize the swelling.
