How To Prepare For Breast Reduction?

How Breast Reduction Surgery Is Performed?

Breast reduction surgery is a day case procedure and usually done under general anesthesia.
Dr. Abizer will make an incision around the areola and down from each breast. Through the incision, he will remove excess breast tissue, fat, and skin in the breast using liposuction techniques to reduce the size of each breast.
The breast will then be reshaped and the nipple and areola will be repositioned to achieve the desired results. The size of the areola might also be reduced if the doctor feels they are bigger for your new breast.
The nipple will usually be attached to the breast, and only in some cases if the breasts are very heavy, they might be removed and then reattached at a higher position.

What Are The Risks Associated With Breast Reduction?

Like any other major surgery, there may be chances of bleeding, infection, and scarring
Undesirable results
Pain and swelling
Although it is very rare and uncommon, one may experience trouble with lactating and numbness around the areola or nipple area

All these risks are very uncommon and will not occur in one patient. Dr. Abizer takes utmost care to avoid the occurrence of any risks and complications during the surgery.

How Is Recovery After Breast Reduction Surgery?

The patient will be discharged on the same day of the surgery and can resume normal daily chores from day 2
The patient might feel mild discomfort, swelling, and bruising around the breasts but this is only temporary and will disappear in 2 weeks.
The nipples might feel numb for 4-6 weeks. It is highly recommended to wear a surgical support bra for 4 weeks at least.
Heavy lifting, exercise, and any strenuous activities are to be avoided for 4-6 weeks.

Breast reduction surgery is a safe procedure that provides immediate, satisfactory, and generally permanent results. However, breast size or shape may change due to reasons such as aging, weight fluctuations etc.
